Thematic Scope

Topics may include, but are not limited to:

  • Prevention, early intervention, and strengths-based practice in counselling psychology
  • Culture, indigenisation, and adaptation in psychological theory and intervention
  • Mental health promotion across community, educational, healthcare, and social systems
  • Professional identity, leadership, training, supervision, and workforce development
  • Innovations in methodology, measurement, and culturally responsive evidence generation
  • Resilience, well-being, and community engagement across the life course
  • Interdisciplinary and translational research for practice, policy, and public mental health

Eligibility & Submission Limits

We welcome abstract submissions from researchers, practitioners, trainees, and students in counselling psychology and related disciplines.

  • Submission Limit: Maximum of two abstracts per participant as the first or presenting author.
  • In-Person Requirement: At least one author must register for the conference and present the work in person.
  • Ethical Standards: All submissions must meet appropriate ethical and scholarly standards. Work involving human participants must have received relevant institutional ethical approval, which will be verified during submission.

Presentation Types & Formats

All accepted abstracts will be allocated a 15-minute time slot (inclusive of presentation and Q&A). Authors may apply for or be assigned to one of the following formats:

1. Oral Presentations

  • Duration: Total of 15 minutes per speaker (inclusive of presentation and Q&A).
  • Format: Scheduled within dedicated parallel thematic sessions.

2. Poster Presentations & Student Showcase

Poster presentations provide a dynamic visual platform for interactive scholarly exchange. Presenters are required to attend their designated poster sessions to engage directly with conference participants.

  • Technical Specifications: Must be designed in portrait orientation and must not exceed 90 cm (W) × 120 cm (H).
  • Logistics & Printing: Presenters are fully responsible for the printing, transportation, setup, and removal of their physical posters. Please note that on-site printing and storage services are not available. The Organisers assume no responsibility or liability for posters that are left behind, lost, or damaged.
  • HKSYU Student Showcase: Outstanding HKSYU postgraduate submissions will be selected to compete for the Best Presenter Award and inclusion in the Conference Proceedings.
Publication Opportunity: Book Chapter Contribution

We are planning to publish an edited book following the conference, focusing on strength-based and preventive interventions in Hong Kong and wider Chinese communities.
You can indicate your interest in contributing a chapter during online submission. Please note that this is an initial survey for planning purposes, and formal invitations will be sent separately if the publication proceeds.

Abstract Preparation at a Glance

Please ensure your abstract adheres to the following core specifications before uploading:

  • Language: Academic English (APA 7th Edition).
  • Word Count: Maximum 300 words (excluding title and author details).
  • Keywords: 3–5 keywords, in lowercase, separated by semicolons.
  • Structure: Single paragraph only (No subheadings, tables, or references).
  • Content: Abstracts should clearly address the background, aims, methods, findings, and implications of the work.
  • Empirical Submissions: Must report actual results/findings.

Please review the full abstract submission guidelines thoroughly before proceeding. All applications must be submitted via the Microsoft CMT portal according to the following requirements:

  • Online Only: Submissions must be made via Microsoft CMT portal (new users must register an account first). Email submissions will not be accepted.
  • Flexible Formatting: You may type your abstract directly into the CMT system, or optionally upload a prepared document (.doc, .docx, or .pdf; max 10 MB).
  • Edits & Deadlines: You can log back into CMT to revise your submission anytime before the deadline. All timelines strictly follow Hong Kong Time (UTC+8).
